Family Reunion 1885 Style

Though I have been posting a number of Mystery Photos lately, I do also have a few pictures that I can identify! Here’s one from 1885, taken on the occasion of a family party in the Ohiopyle Park in West Pennsylvania.

Nevin and Rankin Party

Unlike many of the pictures in my collection , this one actually had the names on the pack to identify the parties present, making it much easier to figure out who’s who. The couple to the left are James Henry Rankin and his wife Kate [Murphy] and the three little girls are their daughters, Margery, Carolyn and Helen, shown right to left in the photo. On the right are Charles Finley Nevin and his wife Elizabeth Ann [Grafton] and standing in front of their father, is their son, Theodore Hugh. Charles and Elizabeth also had two daughters, Esther and Elizabeth, but apparently, they missed the party.

This group of Rankins and Nevins are among those who moved out to the Sewickley area, though both families were originally in Cumberland County.

my maternal grandmother was a Briggeman from Montana and later moved to Alberta. I have heard that there is a Briggeman Family Reunion in Montana each year, are you aware of this?
